Profile: In possess of advantageous traffic locations and tourism resources, Taozhu Town has become one of the 3 key development towns based on Lihai’s new city development strategy. Dongyang Avenue is a north-south arterial road that intersect the new area of Taozhu Town; client required to redesign the street-front landscapes and build a new visitors’ reception center, as a city showcase on Dongyang Avenue. The scheme refined relevant programs, road sections and street-front landscapes on both sides of Dongyang Avenue, and created a “mixed use residential block” by using existing ground floors with civic programs of shopping, dining, accommodations and recreations. Design development of key node areas including visitors’ reception center, south entrance of civic plaza and Dafo Culture Park, which retained a consistent feature of picturesque resort town and promoted medium- & low-density layout with riverfront buildings and roadways. South China architectural features and materials are creatively applied to new and renewed buildings; the materials use mostly local stones and woods.
